Just a Saturday

Today was nothing special, just a Saturday– which was wonderful!  Nate had got to work today, which for a Saturday has been very rare.  It was amazingly gorgeous outside, in the upper 60’s, so the kids were outside most of the day.  I walked on the treadmill (40 minutes!) and then walked another 40 minutes with my dear friend Kristy.  After a quick shower and meeting Nate for lunch, I then spent the ENTIRE afternoon and evening trying to figure out technology– getting this blog started!  I’m grateful to Dimitar, the techie that helped me out very patiently.

My treadmill and the walk with Kristy are the beginnings of a new me– or, well, a new body for me.  Hopefully.  I’ve committed to walking on the treadmill every single morning for 10 days.  I started Monday and have done well; I started at a mile and a half, but today I made it to 2 miles and plan to stick to that from now on.  I was very inspired by a blog I happened upon (when I was researching a body cleanse– more on that another day):  10-days-to-a-better-life I had already walked for 2 mornings when I found the ‘10-days-to-a-better-life,’ and loved the plan: to commit to doing something for 10 days, evaluate and decide if I want to commit to another 10 days, do it, re-evaluate and decide if I want to commit to another 10 days… and then the evaluation is basically a recognition of attaining a new habit, because I’ll have done it for 30 days!

Committing to something for 30 days seems too overwhelming to me, too much like I’m setting myself up for failure.  But 10 days is so… bite-able.  Like I can do 10 days easy, and if I see benefits and want to continue, I can choose 10 more days; if I decide I don’t want to continue, I’ve still fulfilled my commitment and didn’t fail.  See?  Very bite-able.

Anyway, throughout the blog I’ll keep you posted on my weight-loss journey.  I’m going to be 40 at the end of the year, and my main goal is to look good and be healthier than ever at 40.  Who wants to be ashamed that they’re 40?!  I want to be proud of it and I really, really want to feel good, not feel old.
